What the number means

This is the spot price of gold (XAU/USD) — the global benchmark. Your broker's price sits a few units either side because of the spread. Use it to size a trade or check margin.

FAQ

Common questions

Where does the live gold price on this page come from?

The live price is drawn from market data feeds that reflect interbank XAU/USD quotes, refreshed as the feed updates. It is a reference, not an executable price. Your broker's quote is the only one you can trade, and the gap between the two depends on the broker's spread and the speed of each feed.

Why is my broker's gold quote different from the live price here?

Your broker's quote includes its own spread and reflects its liquidity at that instant, so it will sit above or below a raw reference feed. The size of the difference depends on the broker, the session and how fast the market is moving. Compare the two during a quiet period and again during a news release to see the pattern.

Is the live price in pesos or dollars?

It is in US dollars, because gold (XAU/USD) is quoted that way worldwide. To get a peso figure you multiply by the exchange rate you would actually receive through your bank or GCash, which changes daily. Keep the dollar figure for calculator inputs and convert only at the end, so the arithmetic stays clean.

The price on this page looks frozen during a holiday, is that normal?

Yes, that can happen when the underlying market is closed or thin, such as during a public holiday in a major gold centre. A feed with no new trades has nothing to update. Check the trading hours page before assuming a fault, and rely on your broker's platform for the price you can actually deal on.

Can I use the live price to calculate my margin and pip value?

You can, and you should, because margin depends on the current price. Copy the live figure into the margin calculator to see the deposit a lot size requires, and into the pip value calculator for the per-pip amount. The output still depends on your broker entity's leverage cap, so confirm that before relying on the number.
