FAQ

Common questions

What actually moves the XAU/USD price?

Gold moves mainly on the US dollar, real interest rate expectations, and demand for a safe store of value when risk appetite falls. Central bank buying and jewellery demand add a slower pull. None of these give a reliable timing signal on their own, which is why position size and stops matter more than predicting the next headline.

Why does gold trade in dollars if I am in the Philippines?

Gold is quoted in US dollars globally, so XAU/USD is the standard contract and your profit or loss is computed in dollars. Your peso result depends on the conversion rate at the time you move money, through GCash or a bank transfer. A winning dollar trade can shrink in peso terms if the exchange rate moves against you.

Is a gold pip the same as a forex pip?

No. For gold, one pip is 0.01 on the price, and one standard lot is 100 oz, so a one-pip move is worth one dollar per lot. Currency pairs use different pip conventions, so do not carry forex habits across. Use the pip value calculator with the gold settings rather than assuming the numbers match.

What is the reference price on this site and should I trade off it?

The reference price, around 4275.0, is a fixed marker used so examples and calculator outputs are consistent, not a live quote. Your broker's bid and ask will differ and move constantly. Treat the reference as a teaching number: enter your own live price into the calculators before you act on any figure.

Does the PSE have anything to do with gold trading?

No. The PSE is the home exchange for Philippine equities, while XAU/USD trades on the global over-the-counter market through your broker. That means gold hours, pricing and regulation follow the broker's entity, not the PSE. For reference, FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK) and CySEC - not by the SEC of the Philippines.
